Analysis

DashPass saved the most in absolute terms ($66.48) thanks to its aggressive service fee reduction. But Grubhub+ delivered the best net savings ($51.18) because it costs nothing with Amazon Prime. Uber One's 5% cashback and ride savings make it the best choice if you also use Uber for transportation.

Hidden Restrictions They Don't Advertise

DashPass: Not all restaurants are DashPass-eligible

About 15% of restaurants on DoorDash don't participate in DashPass. These are often smaller, independent restaurants where you still pay full delivery + service fees. The app shows a “DashPass” label on eligible restaurants, but it's easy to miss. Always check before ordering.

Uber One: Higher minimum for free delivery ($15 vs $12)

Uber One requires $15 minimum for free delivery — $3 higher than DashPass and Grubhub+. For small solo orders (coffee + pastry), you'll still pay delivery fees. This matters less for family orders but is annoying for quick individual orders.

Grubhub+: Smallest restaurant selection in most cities

Grubhub has fewer restaurant partnerships than DoorDash or Uber Eats in most markets. In cities like Houston and Phoenix, the selection gap is noticeable. However, in New York and Chicago, Grubhub is very competitive.

All three: Auto-renew is ON by default

After your free trial, all three subscriptions auto-renew. Set a calendar reminder to evaluate before the trial ends. Cancellation is easy on all platforms (Account → Membership → Cancel), but you need to do it before the billing date.

DashPass Deep Dive

Strengths

  • Largest restaurant network (most DashPass-eligible options)
  • Best service fee reduction (15% → 5% = massive savings on large orders)
  • Lowest minimum for free delivery ($12)
  • Free with Chase credit cards (saving $120/year)

Weaknesses

  • Food delivery only — no ride or grocery benefits
  • No cashback or loyalty points
  • DoorDash already has higher base prices than Uber Eats

Best for: Heavy DoorDash users who order 3+ times/month. Especially valuable if you have a Chase card (free membership). The service fee reduction is the biggest differentiator — on a $50 order, you save $5 in service fees alone. For current DoorDash promo codes to stack with DashPass, see our promo code guide.

Uber One Deep Dive

Strengths

  • 5% cashback on eligible food orders
  • Works across Uber Eats + Uber rides + grocery delivery
  • Best group ordering feature for families
  • Lower base prices on most orders (see our comparison)

Weaknesses

  • Higher minimum ($15 vs $12) for free delivery
  • Fewer eligible restaurants than DashPass
  • No free access via credit card partnership

Best for: People who use the full Uber ecosystem (rides + food + grocery). The 5% cashback compounds nicely — on $400/month in food delivery, that's $20 back. Combined with ride savings, Uber One can easily be worth $30–$50/month.

Grubhub+ Deep Dive

Strengths

  • FREE with Amazon Prime (biggest advantage)
  • $12 minimum for free delivery (tied for lowest)
  • Best restaurant promos (up to $12 off frequently)
  • Strong in NYC and Chicago markets

Weaknesses

  • Smallest restaurant selection in most markets
  • Service fee reduction is less consistent
  • No student discount
  • App UX less polished than DoorDash/Uber

Best for: Amazon Prime members — it's free, so it's always worth activating. Use it as your baseline, then compare with DoorDash or Uber Eats per order to find the best price. Families especially benefit — see our family delivery guide.

Which Should You Choose?

If you have Amazon Prime → Grubhub+ (free)

Activate immediately. It costs nothing and saves $40+/month. Then compare per-order with DoorDash/Uber Eats.

If you have a Chase card → DashPass (free)

Free DashPass through Chase Sapphire/Freedom saves $120/year. Best service fee reduction of any subscription.

If you use Uber for rides → Uber One

The cross-platform value (food + rides + grocery) makes it the best bang for $9.99/month if you use the full ecosystem.

Best strategy: Use all three

Activate Grubhub+ (free w/ Prime) and DashPass (free w/ Chase). That's two subscriptions at zero cost. Then compare prices per order across all three apps. This is exactly what Takeout.AI does automatically.
